As the main page will now have announced, this project has come to an end.
It was not how it was meant to be, for goodness sake. A lot happened.
Firstly, our founder got cancer, and was out for over a year. That takes it out of a project, when the energy behind it just disappears, and those involved are all left wondering, will he make it?
As it happened he did. but the world moves on rapidly, and when it does, the momentum you gained goes with it. And, of course, the costs pile on, and the donations, rightly, dry up.
Yet the site is still here. So, clearly something worked out.
So what of the project?
Well, the industry itself has move on in the last two years (and it’s nearly been that long since we’ve been able to do updates), broadcast television as we intended to be in is dying on its arse, if not entirely, then the audience has move on, the cost justification of doing what we had planned, well that, alas, no longer makes financial sense.
It was all so well planned, right up until it wasn’t.
S0, did we give in?
No.
But sometimes you had to admit that what you planned won’t work.
This is that admission.
But all is not lost. We learned a lot putting this together, even if it won’t be quite what we wanted. We believe we can be part of a bigger project, where non-politically aligned news still has a place in the media ecosystem.
It’s always a massive shame when you have to admit defeat, but it is part and parcel of the honesty and reality needed to make media projects work.
In closing, thank you to all those who supported up, gave up time, energy, donations and word of mouth to keep us going, at times when we thought we couldn’t make it, you all came through and made sure we did. Thank you so much.
But don’t (quite) give up on us yet.
